New stickers and Awesome few weeks

These past few weeks have been awesome.  I went to a small youtube gathering, went to an awesome metal festival with great bands, made a movie in 48 hours in the Detroit 48 hour contest, and tonight saw Filter and even got some video with their lead singer/ frontman.

I can’t wait to post the video and blog about it, but can’t tonight.  Soon though.   and next weekend is VIDCON  so can’t wait.

here is the trailer to the short movie I made this weekend and even played at the Maple Theater in Bloomfield Mi this past Tuesday  (will post full movie after awards for this contest is given out)

You are  all amazing and thank you so much for reading this and watching my youtube channel.

Using a Google Hang-out in an Off You-Tube Medium

I spent a lot of hours researching the question: Can I use a Live or Recorded google hangout as a movie scene off of youtube.

I ended up e-mailing google Permissions and they answered my questions with in a few e-mails.

This video should sum it all up.

Here are the screen shots of the e-mail.

Hope this helps,

Short 10 Cinema Contest, Nerf, and the Awful Weather Man

This past weekend I particpated in my Short10Cinema Contest.

This was the first time I have done a 100 hour video contest.  This means I had to write/ record/ edit a video in under 100 hours.  I have done similar contests (with awesome team members) before, they were all 48 hour contests.  We thought this one would be a walk in the park compared to doing everything in 48 hours.  Compared to those contests, where we didn’t know what type of movie we had to make (comedy, drama, sci-fi ect .) in this contest we did (comedy or dark comedy).

For my Team first off I have to talk about my Director/ lead writer Brian Dundas (Evil Ducky).  We have been classmates/ friends for a few years now and work well together.  This contest actually counts towards his senior project for school.  Me and him have done videos where we were the whole crew and actors still felt the support as if we were a larger crew. Although we do take credits such as Director and Editor ect . . . neither one of us would (or could) take full credit for the process of making these videos.

This is our Bio that Short 10 Cinema Posted.

Latest Short10Cinema entrants, Brian Dundas (Evil Ducky) and Scott Maiale (Toaden) are a filmmaking duo from Detroit who met in the hallowed halls of Lawrence Tech University in 2010 when they realized they could get class credit for a film consisting of nothing but random bits of footage backed with Pagliacci. They compete regularly in 48-hour contests… usually together, when they aren’t arguing over whether “We’ll fix it in post” is valid grounds for divorce. Ducky works as the in-house TV show director for Hazel Park racetrack, a voice actor, and independent filmmaker. Toaden works as editor/cameraman/production assistant at a local university and his YouTube channel (ToadenK) is partnered with Fullscreen Network.

It is very noteworthy as well that this is also the first time working with Louis Badalament.  Louis is better known as the “Awful Weatherman” from a video from his early days of collage.

This video was so popular he was invited to be on Tosh.0 for a Web Redemption.  http://tosh.comedycentral.com/video-clips/2fylgg/web-redemption—bad-weatherman

Our elements were:  It had to be a comedy or dark comedy, have a telephone pole and a rubber ball, have the word “holiday” in it, and be under ten minuets in length including the credits.

This is the finial product

When the judging is over the playlist of all the entries will be on http://www.short10cinema.com/ as well as listings on their other video contests.

After the judging I may update this if we win any category (if not why bother)

Mic Checking to News / I do not do Microphone Reviews

This morning I post a video of my testing a MXL RF 350 Lavalier Microphone wile talking about Time Warner dropping the Ovation art network.

I don’t like to do Microphone reviews because if I base a review off of one test it makes the review centered on that particular setting and circumstances.  I feel it is important to have an your own opinion   on a sound since 1. everyone is different and 2. your setting and circumstances will probably be different.    I feel different situations require different types of microphones hence why I have more than one.

So why was I talking about the news?  In other microphone tests I’ve spoke about my self, had a friend sing “mary had a little lamb” and even had a debate weather or not Santa Claus or Africa is real.

I do these things to try to produce a natural sounding conversation.  A sound that is not forced or not being too loud or quiet.  When doing sound checks it is important to have the “talent” doing the sound check in the voice they are using during the show, for examples news reporters will start reading stories for their sound checks.

If the talent isn’t there at least the audio operator can test the equipment and try to get adjustments “in the ballpark” of where they need to be before the next sound check so that may be quicker (depending on time restraints this is ideal if dealing with a number of speakers and microphones for a larger venue.

What I have seen done while setting up equipment a day prior to an event is people reading off newspaper articles.

Since I try to do these videos for entertainment as well I like to find other things to talk about while making the tests valid for the audience.

For my other equiptment reviews they are under my equipment-review tab.

The Vlogger Interviews / Life Online

Recently I had the plasure of guest staring on on “The Vlogger Interviews”.  A show where 3 time Emmy Winner Rich Samuels talks to Youtubers about their channels and the way they see social media.

I want to mention that Rich has a project currently on Indiegogo called “Life Online” http://www.indiegogo.com/lifeonline

This project is to found a documentary (something that Rich knows a lot about doing) about a family of Youtubers.  Besides from being a great topic  (forgive me I’m a little bias) it does relate to the modern would interacting with social media.

Once again I suggest that this project deserves to be looked at and founded (again look at the site http://www.indiegogo.com/lifeonline for details).  This documentary will be made whether the goal on Indiegogo is met or not, but more founding means a better project (the documentary could start sooner  and Rich could afford to spend more time on it).  If you look there are “Perks” for donations”.

Most of the world is on social media, however there is so much to these outlets such as Youtube that most people just don’t realize.  So please check  out http://www.indiegogo.com/lifeonline

Professor Toaden?

Apart of my day job is to assist the video production program at the university.  This includes trouble shooting problems with equipment, setting up equipment, helping students in the studio, along with various other tasks.

I was asked in the summer (2012) if I could assist during two classes to provide one-on-one time during an Intro to video class (helping with editing and learning cameras) as well as Intro to Broadcast Studio (helping the professor to learn the equipment then helping the students).

(A tutorial I did to help answer some questions from a student)

I agreed not knowing how much this description would change.  During these classes I would give lectures and actually teach the studio portion of the Broadcast Studio course.  This is in no means to discredit the professors teaching these courses. They are both great Professors that gave me a chance get more involved and expand on areas that they may lack in experience wise.

In the future if possible I would like to teach a class of my own 🙂

Youtube Amateurs, what are they? Is Amateur hour over?

A Youtuber who I respect very much put up a video asking “Is Amateur Hour Over?”

After watching this I wanted to have a discussion of my own with some fellow YouTubers.

Jessica: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoneToTheSnowDogs

Michael: www.youtube.com/thedangerousbrew

William: http://www.Youtube.com/BasicComputerHelp

I also used this opportunity to test a different way to post google + hangouts.  Besides not being able to see a part of the lower thirds (the graphic) I like.  In the future I will recommend putting channel name on time and leave bottom blank, or find a different way to do a lower third such as a third party software like Manycam.  Also around 9 Min mark when Michael left the room the video changes.  That would require more attention in the future.

I like doing these disscussions and if people like watching them I am willing to do more.

First Person Shooter Videos

I am not a gamer.  Make no mistake the only game I bought in the past year is “Plants Vs Zombies”.  I believe that alone says I AM NOT A GAMER.

However I do like playing games with fake guns.  This means Paint-ball, laser-tag, Airsoft, and of course Nerf.

I was invited to play nerf with the LTU Nerf Group.  I thought this was a perfect time to get footage for a First-Person like shooter video.

This is not the first time I have been in a First-Person shooter video.  I got the idea from when a good friend of mine who made this video.

For more information on the videos please click the youtube links on the video.
